Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Set for New Brooks Park Playground

July 20

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at St. Clair Brooks Memorial Park in Stafford at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22 to celebrate the opening of the new children’s playground.

The playground includes a tot lot section for children up to age 5. Some of the tot lot features were created for ADA accessibility. The second section, for ages 6 to 12, is designed to promote physical fitness and address obesity in children. The equipment includes a rock wall, balancing equipment, climbing poles and slides. Each feature of the playground requires the work of different muscle groups to strengthen growing children.

When Stafford County took over operations and maintenance of the park from the Fredericksburg-Stafford Parks Authority in 2007, the Parks and Recreation Department identified and eliminated potential safety hazards for park visitors, including older playground equipment that was at the park at that time. Installation of the new playground began in June and was completed this month.  Funding for the new playground came from the Fredericksburg-Stafford Parks Authority.

Members of the Fredericksburg-Stafford Parks Authority and Stafford Board of Supervisors are scheduled to participate in the ribbon cutting.

Brooks Park is located at 60 Butler Road in Falmouth. From mid-March through October 31, the hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. During the rest of the year, the hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information, please call the Department of Parks and Recreation at (540) 658-4871.
