July 4th Activities Planned in Stafford

July 2

Visitors to Stafford County can find plenty to do on Saturday, July 4th to celebrate our nation's independence. The following events are planned throughout the county:

Fabulous Fourth at George Washington's Ferry Farm

George Washington’s boyhood home will be the site for Colonial era activities that feature General George Washington, members of his regiment, and other first-person interpreters describing what life was like for early Americans. Users can view daily activities such as spinning, weaving, laundry, cooking and a surgeon's tent.  A Native American Indian village will provide a look at how they lived, made tools and told stories.  American Indian flutist Jim Morehouse will provide music.

Children can also sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence with a quill pen, play games, make crafts, and get their faces painted (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.).  At 1 p.m., Cub Scout Troop #199 of Stafford County will retire the U.S. flag that flew over the archaeology site in 2008.  Free trolley rides will run between Fredericksburg and Ferry Farm.  Ferry Farm will remain open until 5:00 pm.  Visit www.ferryfarm.org/events.html for more details on this special weekend.
