Crime Solvers
What is Crime Solvers?
The Stafford County Crime Solvers is a community program geared toward
public involvement in the fight against crime.
Each week, an unsolved crime is selected as the crime
of the week. The facts are broadcast on television and radio and printed in
various newspapers.
It offers cash rewards up to $1,000.00, and anonymity to citizens who
provide information that results in the arrest or resolution of an unsolved
crime.
Most of the information received by Crime Solvers is via the
telephone. The easy to remember phone number is
540-659-2020. This number is answered 24 hours a day.
Each week an unsolved crime is selected as the Crime of the
Week. The facts are broadcast on television and radio and printed in
various newspapers.
When a call is received by Crime Solvers, a fact sheet is filled
out. The date, time and a brief summary of the caller's information is
included. The call taker assigns the caller a number. This number is
used in subsequent calls to Crime Solvers, and if and when any reward is paid to
the caller. If the caller gives their name and phone number, that
information is also logged, but it is kept strictly confidential. (All
callers may remain anonymous, with no pressure to reveal their identity, and
still collect their rewards.)
If a callers information results in the arrest or resolution of an
unsolved case, contact with the caller will be made through the media and
arrangements made so the person can receive his or her reward in CASH and
preserve his or her anonymity.
A Crime Solvers Board of Directors, comprised of citizens of Stafford
County, oversees the operation of the program and approves the rewards to be
paid. The determination of rewards is based on information presented
by the Sheriff Coordinators. The Board of Directors do not know who
called in the information -- only the facts of the case and the caller's Crime
Solvers number.
Crime Solvers is a non-profit organization and is funded entirely through
public donations.
Contributions are tax-deductible.
Citizens with information about any crimes are requested to call Crime
Solvers. The caller is assured anonymity by using this method.
